Episode 3.6: Fat Moose Comics and Dewey's Comic City (Garden State Part 2)

Host Anthony Desiato concludes his trip to the Garden State with stops at two longstanding NJ shops: Fat Moose Comics (est. 1982) in Whippany and Dewey's Comic City (est. 1991) in Madison. First, the Flat Squirrel meets the Fat Moose! Anthony enjoys a casual chat with current Fat Moose owner Matt Potucek and employee (aka "heart and soul of the store") Shawn Hendricks about Diamond Comic Distributors' secret shoppers, balancing legacy with innovation, and much more. Then, at Dewey's, Anthony gets veteran retailer Dan Veltre's take on the various industry changes his store has weathered over the years. This episode is Part 2 of a two-episode visit to the Garden State.

About the Podcast

My Comic Shop History
A Podcast from the Director of My Comic Shop Country
For nearly a decade, host Anthony Desiato explored the culture, business, and fandom of the comics retail industry on this podcast series. In 2015, New York’s Alternate Realities closed after 23 years in operation, a community united to say farewell, and a podcast was born. The series continued with deep dives into collecting, national comics retail, conventions, Westchester County’s lost shops, and more. The show signed off for good in 2023 with a quarterly farewell event entitled “For All Seasons” — but the AR community lasts forever.
